Computer games have gained a lot of popularity in the last few years and are becoming a favourite for both young and old. There are various categories of computer games, and survival and shooting games are the most common. A great example of such games is Unturned. If you don't know how to play Unturned with friends, you're missing out on a lot of fun!

Unturned is a free to play survival game for PCs that has steadily become popular. It was released on 7th July 2017. Unturned was designed by Nelson Sexton, and developed and published by Smartly Dressed Games. This game is only available on Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux. The modes that are there are multiplayer and singleplayer.

How to play Unturned with friends

For you to play with friends, you will need to create a server then you can choose to invite them. Here's how to create a server:

Step 1: Open the Unturned folder

• Move to your steam library.
• Right-click on Unturned game.
• Then go to Properties, right-click on the “Local files” tab and after, click on “Browse local files”.
• Then the installation folder will open.

Step 2: Create a shortcut

• Click on create a shortcut and rename the file “Unturned - Server.exe” to remember it with ease.
• On the shortcut file right click on “Properties”.
• In the Target location place quotation marks if there are not there already then add -batchmode -nographics +Secureserver/YourServerName
• It should look like this, but it depends on your installation folder:

'C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonUnturnedUnturned.exe' -batchmode -nographics +Secureserver/ YourServerName

• After this click on Apply then OK.

Note: If you would like to create a local server, write 'lanserver' in place of 'secureserver' where only the players in your local network can join.

Step 3: Run the shortcut

• This will create a folder called servers. After it has opened close the command prompt window.

Step 4: Configuration & commands of the Server

• Open Command.dat file by double-clicking on it. If Windows does not recognize it, open with Notepad
• Type the following for example,

name - yourservername

map - Yukon

port - 27105

• Although not a must, you can add the following:

password - 567 (that is if you want to make your server private)

maxplayers - 12

perspective - both

mode - normal(set the level of difficulty)

pvp or pve

cheats - on

owner - steam ID(automatically makes you admin after you connect to the server)

welcome message for anyone who joins

• Then click on save at the file on the menu bar.

Step 5: Restart your server

Run the server then go to the unturned folder. Afterward, double-click on the server file. Start your server and the changes should appear.

Step 6: Connect to your server

• Connect to the server you have just created after returning to the game.
• For you to connect, click on play, the servers then on LAN.
• Your server will show then you can connect to it.
• After you have created your server for your friends to join, copy the IP address of the hosts, run evolve then invite them.

You can decide to make your server public or private to play with just your friends. To do so send your IP to the people you want to play with then they can connect to your server.

How to connect to an Unturned server

Here is how you can connect to a hosted server for Port-Forwarded, Hamachi or Tunngle

Port-forwarded

• Click on play then connect on the in-game menu.
• Delete the word Localhost in the IP field, and in place of it put the IP address found by the host.
• Type the port number. Remember that the server you want to connect to may have a port that is different from the default which is 25444.
• If the server has a password, enter it into the right box

Hamachi

• There is a power icon on the window of the Hamachi program and beside it is a number.
• Click on the number and select “Copy IPv4 address” which is the IP you are connecting to.
• Follow the same procedure as the one of port-forwarded.

Tunngle

• Log in to tunngle.
• Then on the search bar enter “Unturned”.
• Get to a lobby. Joining servers becomes easier when you are in the same lobby as your host. You are just required to enter the IP and Port.

How to connect to a friend’s Unturned server

You can connect to your friend's unturned server if you have them send an invite. You can also do this by connecting to their server using their IP address where there is “Connect” on the menu.

How do you invite someone to your Unturned group?

Having people in a group comes in handy, and the more they are, the more efficient the teamwork is. The players in the same group can easily locate each other. To invite someone to your group:

• Click on your username on the main menu
• Right-click on “Groups”.
• Then click on the “Create a new group”.
• Key in the details in the required fields.
• Send invites to users that you can trust
• You can also configure “unturned” for some things in your group.
• Click on the character screen and then on the “Group tab”.
• Choose your group then assign a nickname for yourself.

Menu (Options, Survivors, Workshop and Play)

First, after your unturned loads you will find yourself in the main menu, First off you might want to check the 'Options' and set the settings to however you like it, if you are experienceing lag or FPS drop while playing you should lower your settings until you dont experience anymore lag. Then, the 'Survivors' here you are able to customize your character (Example down below).
You can also browse your inventory, you wont have anything there when you start playing (Unless you bought the Gold DLC) so if you want to get random item drops you better start playing, You can also select from 4 different characters you can customize (Without Gold DLC you have only 1 character you can play as and customize)
Then, 'Groups' here you can select any of your steam groups you are in and be in that group with your friends or those who are playing with the same group set as their group.

Playing (Singleplayer and Multiplayer)

Simply, you might want to start off with singleplayer and with difficulty set as Easy, because then your items wont degrade when you use them or they take damage. Also tutorial is recommended.
After you know the basics and think you are ready to play with people you dont know, then multiplayer will be your go-to, but i would`nt recommend that just yet, you need to learn more, for example places where you would build you base and locations in each map. Also you probably want to know something about some locations in the maps you are playing in (for example about the locations where you will get the best possible loot) In multiplayer everything will be harder cause of other people trying to kill you, most people even waste their ammunition on fresh spawns because only 2 things they care about is loot and kills.
You might just want to not head to the military base right after you have spawned, if you are unarmed and there, it will be a deathtrap to you, just like to any other fresh spawn. You might encounter friendly people, but DO NOT trust them, because they might just be waiting for the moment to shoot/stab/punch/hit you in the back and take your stuff.

Different Types of People

While playing in multiplayer you will encounter different types of people, such as Fresh spawn, Green guy, Fake zombie (screenshot down below) Camper, Admin, Noob, 5 years old squeaker, Hacker, Badmin (more information down below) and the most dangerous thing ever... Russian kid (More information down below).
Fresh spawn, the most common type of person, either someone who had just joined the server for the first time or had just gotten killed by someone or something. These guys are NOT FRIENDLY either, they might seem harmless, but in fact they are equally as dangerous as Russian kids and Badmins.

Unturned Ids

Fake zombie, These guys... They are those who want to get loot easily, but even fake zombies can be countered. Heres a screenshot of a perfect fake zombie.
Badmin, These ♥♥♥♥ers, there is a 99% chance that their ago is less than 10 years and they have somehow made their way to become admin on an server, These ♥♥♥♥ers can be seen anywhere, at any time, they are dangerous and CANNOT BE COUNTERED. If you see one, There is only one way to keep your loot safe. Run away (or drive away if you have a car) and disconnect when you think its safe enough.
Green guy, They are not so common but they can be seen anywhere where is green grass, they will be hiding in the grass, so look out for them, Also there is not much information of these guys.
Admin, the ones that keep servers clear of hackers when Battleye cant, not much to say about them, they are basically those who are the best way to counter hackers or Badmins.
Hacker, These little ♥♥♥ no way to counter unless you have an admin on your side. Hackers are usually 5-6 years old kids who installed hacks only to become 'better' in unturned, Advise: NEVER INSTALL ANY CHEATS. Battleye will most likely deal with all cheaters.
Noob, the beginners, not too much to say about them either, they simply dont know much about unturned or its gameplay mechanics.
Russian kid... These guys... i... i hate them, they are the worst of the worst, they dont speak, not even in chat, if they do, they speak russian, they shoot at ANYTHING that moves, they might even waste 10 drum magazines on fresh spawns in 10 minutes or less. Side note: These annoying ♥♥♥♥s always steal everything you had, no matter what it is.
Spawncamper/Camper, They usually wait for someone to show up and attack, SpawnCampers on the other hand, they wait at spawns with fully loaded weapons and wait until someone spawns there, then they kill them.

Death Traps

'Death traps' the places you should`nt go unless you are well prepared for it, One of these death traps is the military base, or any location with word 'Base' in it, because word 'Base' commonly means that its a place where you will get military grade equipment and weapons, or any good weapons such as Automatic rifles that you will not get from civilian or police locations.
Deadzones are also one death trap, you need either a gas mask or a biohazard hood to survive there, Also you need filters, lots of them, depending on how long you are planning to stay in the deadzone, deadzones commonly have great loot, even better than in military bases (Deadzones are commonly places with military item spawns inside, expect the one in washington and yukon)
That pretty much is it for the 'death traps' on maps.

Tips and Tricks

• Dont walk on the roads, i know i know, new players dont know the maps so they will follow the roads to find locations, but it has its own risks in doing so, for example there might be a sniper on a nearby hilll just waiting for someone to make the mistake and walk or drive on a road, then you are already dead if you do so.


• Always keep your best weapon ready, keep your weapon ready, no matter what, if you hear a vehicle, hear sounds of someone hititng something, silenced gunshot, or anything you should consider alarming, pull out your weapon and prepare for combat.


• Keep medical items ready, This one is fairly simple, keep your medical items ready for the moment when they are needed the most, for example when you get shot at and need to heal yourself.


• Cover up your cars windows, Another simple tip, you can barricade your car`s windows with sandbags or plates that yo ucan craft out of wood and metal, But make sure that you can see where you are driving, because if you have a car that you can drive but you cant see where you are driving is a useless car.


• Look out for snipers, Again, fairly simple tip, look out for snipers or anyone who might want your stuff by any means necessary.
